The mantle of Uncle Seeb, that Ebony Giant, did fall on his shoulders. The memory of Sandy the Heroic Dog, has always been embodied in some faithful companion. For he became a minister, a counselor, a theologian, a mythologist, a philosopher and a Dog Lover. And a Teller of Tales, too. For the winged horse Pegasus bade him mount.
It is the Tale, the Myth, the Story of his own Life. Not factual, but true.
Ausgeblendete Felder. Meine Mediathek Hilfe Erweiterte Buchsuche. That makes the story fresh, but it still la I read this autobiography, like many other Utahans are doing, with an eye to the concerts he will be doing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in December. That makes the story fresh, but it still lacks polish. I have watched him in the Les Mis 25th Anniversary video many times, and still get a zing out of listening to his voice. I think he comes through with a generous spirit and a lot of true emotion. That tenor voice has such a range, and watch out when he hits that high C; beautiful.

My biggest issue with the beginning was that it was obvious by the end of the first chapter that it had been ghost written - and not very compentently. The opening chapters seemed to have been written with the intention of sounding like some Jack the lad, bloke around town that the ghost writer imagined Alfie Boe sounded like at that age.

Fortunately it was very much a book of two voices, and the second sounded much more like the Alfie Boe that I've heard interviewed. When it got better, it was actually a good book, and it makes some interesting revelations about the snobbery of the opera world. Not literature to set the world alight but a good read for when you don't want to have to think too much. Mar 14, Jordan Wharmsby rated it really liked it Shelves: read-physical.
Having loved Boe's take on Jean Valjean amongst others; I had this book purchased for me as a gift from the partner. In 'My Story', Boe presents himself as down to earth seemingly rare in his field , honest, and very moving.
The book doesn't go without a smattering of humour and clever wit, however. Whether you are a fan of the 'bad boy of opera' or not, this is an inspiring and revelatory biography for all audiences. Clinching the fifth star is the haphazard writing style skipping backwards and forwards frequently which may leave some readers confused.
As a huge Alfie Boe I did read this knowing quite a lot about him already but I still learnt a lot about his life and of course it is always interesting to read it from their own point of view. The story about his struggle to make it is so well written you really feel the emotion behind it and I felt his desperation when he considers quitting it all.
There was also plenty of laughs especially from the early years of his life. Overall it is just a fantastic book for any Boe fan to read and experi As a huge Alfie Boe I did read this knowing quite a lot about him already but I still learnt a lot about his life and of course it is always interesting to read it from their own point of view. This was a lovely, easy read. As somebody who really enjoys Alfie's voice, and who adored his Jean Valjean, I was very interested in his world and his musical beginnings. And that's what this book is all about. In particular, I loved the way he talked about Les Mis and his determination and doubts regarding his musical dreams and aspirations. It was a great christmas read! Jan 07, Pat Stearman rated it really liked it. Some interesting stuff here, that I didn't know despite the many interviews and suchlike that I've heard the lovely Alfie do.
Chatty book, presumably because it was done in the usual celeb autobiography way of getting the subject to talk and getting a writer to write it.

Enjoyed it tho. Jan 11, Linda Wallis rated it really liked it. This book is very Alfie! It captures him perfectly and I like the easy style in which it comes across. If you like Alfie then read this book! Quite simply written and at times I wanted more but it was wonderful to get an insight into the development of such an amazing singer. If you are a big fan of this singer as I am it is well worth the read as it gives you the true background to his rise to international stardom.
Love it. Alfie Boe comes across as a really lovely chap - great to read about how much his family mean to him and of his struggle to be recognised in the opera world. A good read.
